BTS: My Email Marketing Strategy as an ADHD Coach

As an ADHD coach and entrepreneur, I’ve learned that creating systems that work with my brain—not against it—is essential for sustainable success. Today, I’m pulling back the curtain on one of my most valuable business systems: my email marketing strategy with Flodesk.

If you’re an ADHD coach (or any neurodivergent entrepreneur), you might find that traditional marketing advice feels overwhelming or impossible to implement consistently. My journey to creating an email strategy that actually works for my brain has been full of trial and error, and I’m sharing it all in hopes that it might save you some time on your own path.

Why Email Marketing Matters (Especially for ADHD Coaches)

Before diving into my strategy, let’s address why email marketing deserves your attention as an ADHD coach:

  1. Social media algorithms are increasingly unreliable. Your carefully crafted posts might reach only a fraction of your audience, but emails land directly in their inbox.
  2. The coaching relationship requires deep trust. Email allows for more nuanced conversations than social media’s highlight reel.
  3. Email marketing plays to many ADHD strengths. It rewards authentic communication, creative thinking, and relationship-building—areas where many ADHD entrepreneurs naturally excel.
  4. Results are measurable and motivation-boosting. Seeing real-time opens, clicks, and responses can provide the dopamine hit that keeps you engaged with your marketing.

My Email Platform Choice: Why Flodesk Works for My ADHD Brain

I signed up for Flodesk back in July 2019, and I’ve stayed with them for nearly six years now. Here’s why this platform has been a good fit for my neurodivergent brain:

  • Visually appealing interface. The clean, beautiful design reduces the cognitive load of creating emails.
  • Flat-fee pricing regardless of subscriber count. This eliminates the anxiety of watching subscriber numbers for financial reasons—perfect for my budget-conscious tendencies.
  • Intuitive workflow. The platform works how my brain expects it to work, with minimal friction between my ideas and implementation.

For ADHD coaches specifically, finding tools that reduce decision fatigue and cognitive load is crucial—your mental energy is better spent serving clients than fighting with complicated software.

My Email Collection Strategy: From Scattered to Strategic

When I first started with email marketing, my approach was haphazard at best. I’d place generic “join my newsletter” forms throughout my site and wonder why my list grew at a glacial pace.

Today, my email collection strategy is much more intentional:

1. Content-Specific Lead Magnets

Rather than asking people to join a nebulous “newsletter,” I offer specific resources tied to content they’re already engaging with:

  • Blog posts include downloadable worksheets, templates, or checklists that extend the value of the article
  • YouTube videos mention complementary resources available via email
  • Social media points to specialized resources rather than generic list sign-ups

For ADHD coaches, I recommend creating lead magnets that solve immediate, specific problems for your audience. Think: “ADHD-Friendly Daily Planning Template” rather than “Subscribe for Updates.”

2. Strategic Content Placement

I’ve discovered that my most effective email collection doesn’t happen on social media at all—it happens on my blog and YouTube channel. Why? Because these platforms allow for deeper engagement before asking for an email address.

My blog posts rank for specific search terms related to ADHD entrepreneurship and building an ADHD coaching business, bringing in people actively seeking solutions. By the time they’ve read an entire article, they’re primed to exchange their email for additional help.

Here’s a great example of that… and why not join my list while you’re at it?

3. Segmentation From Day One

Perhaps the most powerful shift in my strategy has been implementing segmentation. Instead of sending the same content to everyone, I’ve created distinct segments:

  • General ADHD resources for my broader audience
  • Business-specific content for entrepreneurs with ADHD
  • Coach-specific content for ADHD coaches

This segmentation allows me to send targeted content that resonates with each group’s specific challenges and goals.

My Email Nurture Strategy: Building Trust Through Consistency

Consistency is challenging for many ADHD brains, but it’s essential for building trust with your audience. Here’s how I’ve made consistency possible for myself:

1. Realistic Sending Schedule

I send emails every Sunday without fail, with an additional mid-week email for my business segment. This cadence is:

  • Frequent enough to maintain relationships
  • Infrequent enough to be sustainable for me
  • Predictable for my subscribers

Finding your own sustainable rhythm is crucial—better to send valuable emails consistently once a month than burn out trying to maintain a daily schedule.

2. Content Batching When Inspiration Strikes

Rather than forcing myself to write emails on a rigid schedule, I capitalize on high-energy, high-creativity periods to batch-create email content.

When I feel particularly inspired about a topic, I might draft 3-4 emails at once and schedule them for future delivery. This works with my natural energy fluctuations rather than fighting against them.

3. Template Optimization

I’ve created several email templates that work well for different purposes:

  • Resource delivery emails
  • Weekly value emails
  • Promotional emails for offers
  • Story-based emails for deeper connection

Having these templates ready reduces the activation energy required to start creating, making it easier to maintain consistency even on low-motivation days.

The Result? A List That Converts

The proof of an effective email strategy is in the results. When I opened the doors to my ADHD coaching membership program, I was amazed to see 70 subscribers join immediately—all from my email list.

For comparison, my Facebook ad campaign (which cost significantly more money) brought in just 4 subscribers. The difference? The email subscribers already knew, liked, and trusted me through consistent value delivery.

Here’s what I think ADHD Business Owners need to know about email marketing

If you’re looking to improve your own email marketing strategy, here are the most important lessons from my experience:

  1. Choose tools that work with your brain. The “best” email platform is the one you’ll actually use consistently (that’s why I love Flodesk).
  2. Create segment-specific lead magnets. The more targeted your offer, the higher your conversion rate will be.
  3. Focus on consistency over perfection. A simple email sent regularly builds more trust than an elaborate email sent sporadically.
  4. Leverage your natural ADHD strengths. Your authenticity, creativity, and ability to make unexpected connections can make your emails stand out in crowded inboxes.
  5. Track what works. Pay attention to which emails generate the most engagement and use that data to inform future content.

Creating an email marketing strategy can become one of your most powerful business assets. My list has become the foundation of my business growth, allowing me to build relationships that eventually convert to program participants and coaching clients.

Remember that your email list is one of the few marketing assets you truly own. While social media platforms and their algorithms may change, your direct line to your audience’s inbox remains consistent—much like the consistent support you provide to your ADHD coaching clients.
